Northeast Florida isn’t the first place people think of for surfing — but this stretch of coast, from St. Augustine down to Flagler Beach, has some of the most consistent and beginner-friendly breaks on Florida’s Atlantic side. Here’s where locals actually paddle out.
St. Augustine Pier
The most popular and consistent spot in the area, with breaks on both the north and south sides of the pier. It can get crowded, especially on a good swell, but it’s the most reliable option in St. Augustine proper. Check the current surf report →
Vilano Beach / Vilano Jetty
Punchy, fast shore-break waves that need a higher tide to clear the outside sandbars. The jetty side can produce barrels when conditions line up — spring (particularly March) tends to be the best stretch. Check the current surf report →
Anastasia State Park
Four miles of open beach break gives you room to spread out — considered one of the better surf zones on this coast, without the crowd you’ll find at the pier.
Flagler Beach Pier
The signature break of this whole stretch, and fairly consistent year-round. It works best on a rising tide near low, with left and right beach-break peaks and barrel sections when the swell is bigger. Summer (July especially) tends to be peak season. Check the current surf report →
North of the Pier: Water Tower & 11th Street
If the pier’s too crowded, these local spots just north offer similar sandbar setups that work well on a low tide pushing higher — a good alternative when the main break is packed.
